It can be sooooo difficult to create a dream living room. It’s such an important room in your home because you spend so much time in it. And, when you are designing a complete home, then the living room can take up a large chunk of your budget. So it’s important to get it right! Are you ready for my top tips? Let’s go!
Define your style
Ask yourself a simple question…what makes you smile? You need to fill your living room with things that make you feel happy, that bring you joy every time you walk into the room. My home decor membership has a special workshop that helps you to define your style. Do you love the sea? Why not use the colour blue, or think of including shells in part of the design.
Sit down and think of what speaks to you, what connects with you. This is the absolute first thing that you need to do when you design your living room. Once you do this, you’ll be on the right track!
Get practical
Everyone has different needs when it comes to a living room. Your next step is to make a list of all of the practicalities that you need to include in your space. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What activities will you do in the room?
- How will you use the room?
By answering these simple questions, you will already get a much more clear idea of how the room should be. Imagine that you have lots of guests staying over. Then maybe you’ll need a sofa bed and space for air mattresses on the floor. Are you entertaining people often? Perhaps you’ll need loads of seating options.
Budget
If you know me, you know I just love to budget! This is SO important when designing your house as you don’t want to be surprised when it comes to money!
Once you know how much you can spend on the room, you need to decide what will be your biggest expense. I always say that you should invest in something that creates the wow effect. I know it can be so tempting to spend loads of money on a sofa, but remember you still have other items you need to buy to create a complete and fabulous room.
