Hey lovely!.. Are you ready to start decorating your home, but you’re a bit confused or afraid of getting it wrong? Don’t worry, I’ve got your back! Check out the decor mistakes you should avoid with 3 tips to get you on the right track..
1. Matching everything
A big designer no-no (some may disagree), is purchasing furniture as a whole matching set. While it might be easier to do this and have everything coordinated, it can end up looking like an Ikea showroom. But by picking different pieces that aren’t perfectly matched, you can add some soul and bring out your personality!
2. Not adding texture
Without any texture you can end up having a design that looks very flat. To make your home look cosy and comfortable, you need some layers. Adding texture, for example; with cushions, curtains, a rug, or some art work, can help you achieve these layers.
3. Not having a focal point
One of the most important part of any room is the focal point. This guides your eyes immediately and creates the wow factor. For example, in your bedroom it could be the bed, in your living room it could be a fireplace, in your office it could be a desk. You can easily create a focal point, such as a piece of artwork or mirror hung on a wall, or even a beautiful big standing plant. This focal point will be the first thing you see when you enter the room, and then you can create the space and furnishings around it.
I hope these tips will help you get started on decorating your home, by avoiding some very common mistakes. For some further tips on decor mistakes that you can avoid, check out my previous blog post here!
